Imuraya Azuki Bar Matcha

This is the Imuraya Azuki Bar Matcha, featuring Uji matcha produced under the supervision of Fukujuen.

The product presented with a paddle shape, measuring 10 × 5 × 1.5 cm, with a deep green hue.

Initial contact delivered immediate grassy matcha notes with mellow sweetness. The thin exterior, combined with its water rather than dairy base, softened relatively quickly, allowing the red bean interior to emerge early.

Through the mid-palate, the red bean provided complementary contrast to the matcha exterior, with a thicker, creamier and sweeter profile. This contrasted sharply with the Maruyaka version, where the red bean component remained hard and rock-like.

Towards the finish, the matcha ice block and smooth red bean gave way to more pronounced red bean texture, which was creamy and tender. This left an earthy nuttiness that rounded out the vegetal matcha and its hint of bitterness.

Overall, a matcha ice bar with a layered flavour progression and developing textural contrast, resulting in a cohesive transition from grassy matcha to creamy, earthy red bean. Well executed and worth repurchasing.

This Imuraya Azuki Bar Matcha contained 360 mL (60 mL × 6 bars). It was produced in Japan and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2026.
