Oh My Days, Glebe

This is Oh My Days, a vegan bakery specialising in plant-based pastries and baked sweets.

Cinnabun ($7.50)

The Cinnabun featured a plant-based bun rolled with cinnamon sugar and finished with a dairy-free glaze. The bun was very moist, with the base becoming rather stodgy and overly wet. Instead of developing a tender chew, the bread fell apart easily.

The glaze added further sweetness to an already sweet profile, while the absence of butter removed the creamy savoury notes that would otherwise have provided some balance. The result was sticky and sweet, but structurally less convincing than a conventional butter-based version.

Chocolate and Hazelnut Cruffin ($10.00)

The cruffin featured pastry layers surrounding a filling of vegan chocolate and roasted hazelnut, finished generously with whole roasted hazelnuts.

The pastry was crisp and flaky, although the absence of butter was apparent. Shea butter contributed nutty and earthy notes but did not provide the same richness, leaving the pastry experience comparatively lean. The chocolate and hazelnut filling added greater decadence, although the lack of dairy produced a less creamy sweetness, with maple syrup becoming a noticeable component instead. The croquant crust lacked the expected crunch, leaving the roasted hazelnuts as the strongest textural element.

Apple Crumble Danish ($8.00)

The Danish featured flaky pastry filled with a soft, spiced apple compote and topped with crumble streusel.

The pastry delivered a crisp, flaky structure, while the apple compote was soft and gently spiced, with a subtle tangy sweetness that provided useful contrast to the pastry. The crumble introduced a nutty crunch against both the crisp pastry and softer apple filling. The combination produced the clearest balance of flavour and texture among the three pastries, with each component contributing a distinct structural role.

Overall, the vegan pastries were defined by sweet, rich flavour profiles and crisp-to-soft textural contrasts, with execution strongest in the Apple Crumble Danish, where the pastry, spiced apple and crumble maintained distinct but complementary textures. The Cinnabun was overly wet and lacked structural chew, while the Cruffin’s pastry and filling showed the limitations of replacing dairy fats, although its roasted hazelnuts provided a strong textural counterpoint.
