This is the Nissin Foods Demae Iccho Spicy Sesame Oil. It is a spicy variation on the original flavour.

Each package included a noodle cake, a soup base sachet and a seasoning oil sachet. The noodles were prepared by adding them to 500ml of boiling water and cooking for 3 minutes while placing the soup base in a bowl. After removing the noodles from the heat, the hot water was poured into the bowl to dissolve the soup base, followed by the noodles, before stirring well and serving.

The noodles had a clear dark brown soup base with a layer of red oil on top. On tasting, the soup base resembled a rich soy-based ramen. The savoury flavour was balanced by a subtle sweetness, while the spicy sesame oil added a noticeable heat and a moreish nuttiness. The heat was significantly bolder than the original version, leaving a lingering burn on the palate between mouthfuls, but still at an enjoyable level that allowed the sesame and soy flavours to shine. The noodles had a good al dente texture, retaining their firmness even after sitting in the broth for a while. Overall, this spicy sesame oil version offered an enjoyable and approachable flavour, easily enhanced with various toppings, and was worth repurchasing.
