Spring Home Roti Paratha Plain

Carbohydrates are delicious comfort food. We enjoy eating roti so much in restaurants that we tried preparing these Spring Home Roti Paratha Plain from the freezer section in Asian supermarkets.

Each roti is covered on both sides with butter and separated by sheets of plastic.

The roti is prepared by placing the frozen roti onto a pan at medium heat and cooking for 2 minutes on each side. On cooking, the roti puffs up about 10 mm in the pan before collapsing to about 5 mm in height.

The resulting roti has a strong buttery flavour and a slightly flaky texture. Compared to roti eaten at restaurants like Mamak and Papparich, this roti is also oily to the touch and has a similar buttery wheat taste but is denser, lacking the flaky lightness that makes the fresh roti at the restaurants so delicious. That said, these frozen ones were a fraction of the price at 5 pieces for $2.40, whereas fresh ones start at more than twice that.

This Spring Home Roti Paratha Plain contained 325 g or 5x 65 g pieces. It was produced in Singapore and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2018.
