This Whittaker’s Artisan Collection Hawke’s Bay Braeburn Apple with Vanilla is described as having ‘beautifully sweet and tart Braeburn apple pieces from Hawke’s Bay, with an added hint of pure Heilala Vanilla from Tonga, enveloped in mouth-watering white chocolate’. The white chocolate is 28% cocoa, while the block itself contained 1.25% freeze-dried apple pieces and 0.13% ground vanilla bean.

The bits of freeze-dried apple and specks of vanilla are visible throughout the black. Upon tasting, the flavour of crisp apples came through in the aroma as well as in the head of each bite before the white chocolate melts to a rich, creamy mouthfeel while generous pieces of freeze-dried apples add a hit of acidity as well as crunch to contrast. The freshness of the apple lingered with the warmth of the vanilla in the aftertaste, making this bar remarkably enjoyable even for someone who’s not a fan of white chocolate ordinarily.
