This is the Whittaker’s Rum and Raisin. It combined ‘soft Californian raisins and a hint of rum’ with 50% cacao dark chocolate.

The block emitted a deep, sweet aroma characteristic of dark chocolate. Upon tasting, the presence of rum was evident in the initial bite, followed by the emergence of a mild acidity that gradually evolved into the fruity sweetness of raisins, which persisted until the finish. The inclusion of raisins contributed to a softer snap than usual and introduced a delicate, slightly fibrous texture to the chocolate. Throughout each bite, the rum subtly lingered in the background and, in conjunction with the inherent fruitiness of the dark chocolate, intensified the fruity notes of the raisins. This interplay of flavours embodied the recognizable ‘alcoholic chocolate flavour’ often associated with fruit-infused chocolate. While this block may appeal to those who enjoy this flavour combination and the textural addition of raisins, it did not align with our preferences.
This Whittaker’s Rum and Raisin contained 250 g. It was produced in New Zealand and received as a gift from relatives in 2023.
