When it comes to chocolate mudcake we’re fans of the ones from the supermarket bakery. It’s a simple and inexpensive pleasure that’s richer and moister than even those sold at patisseries and cake shops. And in late 2018, this Woolworths Mint Chocolate Mudcake was released as a limited edition twist on the original.

The cake is described as being a ‘mint chocolate mudcake with a rich choc ganache and a hint of mint flavour’. It looks much the same with only the green ribbon of icing distinguishing it from the original.

The cake has subtle mint notes against a rich chocolate aroma. Served at room temperature or warmed, the cake tastes just as it’s described and smells — it’s a rich and moist chocolate mud cake with just a hint of mint at the back of each bite. Indeed, we were expecting it taste like the Arnott’s Mini Cakes Mint Slice, which has a prominent mint flavour like an original Arnott’s Mint Slice, but we were pleasantly surprised and impressed by the subtlety, making it an elegant twist on the original mudcake.
