This is the Nippon Yell Gummy Tochigi Tochiaika Strawberry, made with Tochiaika strawberry juice from Tochigi Prefecture. The name “Tochiaika” was selected in the hope that the fruit would be cherished nationwide. It is characterised by relatively low acidity, pronounced sweetness, a deep crimson colour, a glossy finish, and a distinctive heart shape with a gently concave stem.

On tasting, the flavour opened with clear, assertive sweetness, heightened by the sugar coating. A fresher acidity emerged gradually as the jelly centre was reached. As the core softened on the palate, a bright juiciness developed, tempering the initial sweetness and adding dimension. The chewy outer layer extended the experience, allowing the sweet–sour balance to settle into focus. It concluded with a fragrant strawberry finish that remained clean and aromatic, avoiding an overly jammy or cloying profile.
