N and I were after some comfort food to kick off the week and the prospect of noodles from the recently opened At Tea hit the spot. At Tea offers a set menu of noodles, rice dishes as well as side dishes, but on offer is also malatang, a type of Sichuan hot pot that comes in a bowl for one and the ingredients are paid for by weight.

For comfort food, we have the Noodle Soup with Tomato and Egg ($13.80).

The generous serving of al dente noodles were perfect vehicles for carrying the thick soup. The soup added extra tomato and egg flavour to the fried egg and tomato slices. Ideally, I’d have preferred any even bolder tomato flavour but it was well balanced as it was.

This is the Sichuan Chilli Oil Wonton ($13.80). The dumplings have a silky smooth skin filled with pork, while the chilli oil added a mouth-numbing spiciness. These were enjoyable, but no where near as comforting as the noodle soup.

We’re keen to return here to try the other dishes on the menu. Maybe we’ll even try the hot pot when the weather cools down…
