TeaPlus, Burwood

With DT and his partner embarking on a two-year career break spent in the northern hemisphere, we caught up one last time at TeaPlus in Burwood for some relaxed Taiwanese food before they headed off.

The menu is adorable, with each page being handwritten (and scanned) with cute illustrations throughout.

This is the Tomato Beef Noodle Soup ($12.80). There’s a hearty portion of beef and vegetables, with the tangy flavour of tomato cutting through the beefy broth. The noodles are flat and narrow rice noodles that soak up the flavour well and have a good bite.

D orders the Pork Sauce Rice ($8.50) combination (see below). This is one of their most popular dishes, and it’s no wonder, with the pile of chopped up pork in a thick savoury sauce on a bed of rice, and accompanied by a tea egg, mustard greens and fresh vegetables. The taste is not amazing, but it’s decent considering the price.

This is the Oolong Milk Tea (+$3.00, as part of a combo with Pork Sauce Rice). This had pleasant oolong notes, but the flavour of the milk was very prominent and tasted thin and watery overall.

This is the Chicken Basil (small) (+$4.00, as part of a combo with Pork Sauce Rice). D enjoyed these juicy morsels of chicken thigh.

The food at Tea Plus is mostly basic dishes that appeal to students and workers looking for a quick and hearty feed for an affordable price in a relaxed atmosphere.

TeaPlus is located at 183C Burwood Rd, Burwood NSW 2134.
