Kasugai Tsubu Gumi Lactic Acid Bacteria Yoghurt

LAC-Shield is a strain of heat-killed lacticaseibacillus paracasei found to have potentially powerful immune supportive effects. Highly stable and very tolerant to heat and pH, LAC-Shield makes it easy to incorporate into supplements, foods and beverages. This is the Kasugai Tsubu Gumi Yoghurt Mix, a limited edition flavour containing 10 billion LAC-Sheild CFU.

Each package featured a selection of five flavours: plain yogurt (15 pieces), strawberry yogurt (13 pieces), aloe yogurt (9 pieces), pink grapefruit yogurt (14 pieces), and mikan yogurt (6 pieces).

The jelly bean center embodied the yoghurt taste across all the flavours. The outer coating was notably thicker than that in the Premium series, underscoring its role as the primary flavour carrier. When enjoyed together, this combination created the distinct experience of flavoured yogurt.

Yoghurt. This flavour featured an off-white external coating enveloping a translucent, colourless gummy interior. The exterior imparted the crisp, sweet acidity reminiscent of Calpis, while the interior delivered a creamier yoghurt flavour, evoking the taste of Yakult.

Strawberry Yoghurt. In this flavour, a vibrant pink external coating enclosed a translucent, colourless gummy interior. The strawberry flavour was subtly sweet but came to the forefront only after the gentle acidity from the yogurt interior emerged. This combination produced a taste reminiscent of strawberry-flavored Calpis.

Aloe Yoghurt. This flavour featured a pale green external coating enclosing a translucent, colourless gummy interior. It was a revelation for us, as aloe isn’t typically associated with flavour beyond its textural contribution to beverages. To our delight, the coating managed to convey the watery and mildly grassy essence of aloe gel, which harmonized nicely with the subtle acidity from the yoghurt interior.

Pink Grapefruit Yoghurt. This flavour had a pale pink exterior coating that encased a translucent, colorless gummy interior. The outer layer offered a vibrant, citrusy grapefruit taste, featuring sweetness and freshness without any bitter notes. The gummy interior, on the other hand, mellowed the typical sharpness of the grapefruit’s tartness.

Mikan Yoghurt. This flavour featured a pale orange outer coating with a translucent, colorless gummy interior. It offered a delightful, sweet mikan flavour, albeit without the same depth and richness found in the Kasugai Tsubu Gumi Premium Rich Citrus.

In summary, the yoghurt variation of Tsubu Gumi may have lacked the intricate depth and complexity of flavours present in the Premium line, but it undeniably maintained the line’s impeccable texture and taste, securing its place as our preferred choice among jelly bean brands.
