Fujisei Horiuchi Aomori Jōmon Chestnut Pudding

This is the Fujisei Horiuchi Aomori Jōmon Chestnut Pudding, made with Japanese chestnut paste from Hayashi Farm, located near the Komakino Ruins in Aomori City. The Komakino Ruins are one of the Jōmon archaeological sites in Hokkaidō and northern Tōhoku.

Chestnuts were a staple food during the Jōmon period, as evidenced by the remains of chestnut groves found around ancient settlements. This pudding pays tribute to that historical connection by showcasing the rich, natural flavour of chestnuts.

The pudding was packaged in a sealed foil container that measured 6 cm in diameter and 2.5 cm in height. It had an opaque tan colour with brown specks throughout and emitted a mellow roasted chestnut aroma.

When tasted, the pudding had an exceptionally creamy and smooth texture that melted in the mouth. The flavour was rich with the taste of roasted chestnut purée, which was sweet, buttery, and soft. The fine consistency contributed to its luxurious mouthfeel, while a warm, gentle sweetness balanced the overall flavour. A subtle savoury note emerged in the finish, reminiscent of a rich egg yolk pudding, adding depth and complexity.

This pudding was a delightful celebration of roasted chestnut flavour with an impeccable texture. It is well worth repurchasing.

This Fujisei Horiuchi Aomori Jōmon Chestnut Pudding contained 70 g x 1 serving. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Aomori, Japan in 2024.
