Mandarin has much more elegant flavour than orange, with its stronger, sweet notes making it more enjoyable than oranges, which tend to be sourer. Mikan is a popular species of mandarin in Japan (originating from China), and its dried peel is often used in Chinese cuisine. Here, it flavours this Fukujuen Mikan Sencha.

Each box contained five 2 g pyramid tea bags.

Steeping a 2g tea bag in 200 mL of 75°C water for 90 seconds, the infusion was a clear pale straw colour with a sweet mikan aroma. Served hot, the sweetness of mikan flesh came through ahead of mellow vegetal notes in the body that give way to the refreshing zesty mikan notes in the finish and leave a light astringency lingering on the palate. Overall, this citrus flavoured green tea is immensely enjoyable as it takes on the sweeter qualities of the citrus flesh rather than the bitterness that can come from the zest.

This Fukujuen Mikan Sencha contained 5 tea bags. The tea originated in Japan and was purchased in Uji, Kyōto, Japan in 2015.
