This is the Nippon Yell Gummy Nagasaki Nagasaki Koi Mikan, made with juice from Nagasaki Koi mandarins grown in Nagasaki Prefecture. “Koi Mikan” is a unified regional brand representing select mandarin orange varieties that meet specific quality standards. The name koi (濃い, “strong”) refers to the intensity of their flavour—a reflection of the fruit’s high sugar content and richness.

Each gummy measured approximately 2 cm in diameter and 1 cm in height, with an opaque orange hue and a coating of white sugar crystals. The aroma was sweet and distinctly mandarin. The sour crystals on the surface provided an initial burst of tanginess and textural contrast. The gummy offered a tender, bouncy chew and lacked the jelly-like core found in some other variants in this series. Mandarin flavour emerged promptly from the first chew, beginning with mellow sweetness and deepening into a juicy, full-bodied mandarin profile in the mid-palate. Acidity was present yet balanced, adding lift without veering into sourness, while a swift, zesty note provided brightness to the finish.

This flavour captured the richness and intensity associated with Koi Mikan, supported by a pleasing texture and clean citrus finish, making it one of the stronger offerings in the series and well worth repurchasing.
