This UHA Mikakutō Puccho Okinawa Shiikuwāsā was an Okinawa-limited edition flavour that we picked up from the prefecture’s antenna store in Tōkyō. Shiikwaasa is grown in Okinawa.

Each candy piece measured about 2 x 1.5 x 1 cm and had an opaque white outer layer enfolding a pale green centre with yellow gummy bits. A subtle sweet citrus scent emanated from the candy. Upon sampling, the outer layer exhibited a taffy-like consistency that concealed the chewy gummy bits within. The taffy exuded a mellower, sweeter shiikwaasa flavour, reminiscent of yuzu’s floral hints and kabosu or lime’s tanginess, yet asserting its distinct character. The gummy inclusions contributed a livelier, tart note to create a well-rounded taste experience. These candies adeptly captured the aromatic citrus profile of ripe shiikwaasa while mitigating the fruit’s inherent bitterness, making it a truly delightful treat.
This UHA Mikakutō Puccho Okinawa Shiikuwāsā contained 50 g (5 g x 10 pieces). It was produced in Japan and purchased in Tōkyō, Japan in 2023.
