Comprising 77% baked eggplant, along with vegetable oil, water, egg, salt, lemon juice, garlic, sugar, parsley, pepper, and mustard flour, it shared the same eggplant percentage as the Yumi’s Quality Foods Mediterranean Eggplant Dip. The order of other ingredients was identical, except for the inclusion of water in this Aldi version.

The dip was a greige hue with specks of purple and brown, and emitted a rich garlicky aroma. On tasting, it delivered a robust eggplant flavour with pronounced smoky undertones, complemented by a rich garlicky taste reminiscent of baba ganouj. Notably, it achieved the desired smokiness absent in the Yumi’s Quality Foods version, while the eggplant had a smoother consistency, resulting in a creamier dip for a more enjoyable dipping experience. Overall, this Aldi version proved preferable in terms of both pricing and a creamier, smokier profile, maintaining an identical eggplant percentage. We would make repeat repurchases.
