Tealosophy, located in Hong Kong’s Central District, is a Japanese-style tea house.

The tea house features an inviting and relaxing atmosphere with minimalist and modern decor for customers to enjoy their teas, with a small raised tatami area in the back. The store also had a tiny rock garden connecting the main tea room to a separate building.

On offer were a variety of afternoon tea sets, tea-infused desserts, as well as savoury tea-infused meal options.

Sparkling Jasmine Tea Float with Tofu Ice Cream (78 HKD/15.6 AUD).
The jasmine-flavored tea offered a vibrant, dewy taste heightened by delicate sparkling bubbles. Its base was a toasted Chinese green tea, providing a light and gently sweet foundation that complemented the jasmine notes without introducing disruptive bitterness or astringency.
The addition of tofu ice cream, cleverly perched in an ice ‘cup’ above the beverage to preserve its integrity, proved to be a delightful surprise. The smooth and creamy tofu ice cream featured a subtle soybean flavor, contributing a hint of sweetness that complemented the otherwise unsweetened tea.

Sparkling Houjicha Tea Float with Tofu Ice Cream (78 HKD/15.6 AUD)
The hōjicha flavor carried a deeply roasted aroma, accompanied by a natural sweetness derived from the roasting process, while the infusion of the sparkling bubbles elevated the experience, resulting in a highly satisfying beverage. Once again, the inclusion of tofu ice cream added a pleasing textural and flavour contrast, introducing an earthy, beany dimension to the roasted sweetness of the hōjicha.

Tea Jelly (25 HKD/5 AUD for 3 pieces)
The tea-infused jelly featured the taste of jasmine green tea, echoing the dewy and toasted notes found in the tea described earlier. Although the flavour was noticeable upon the initial bite, a quick palate refresh between bites was necessary to preserve the richness of the subtle taste. The jelly exhibited a jiggly texture, avoiding the immediate crumbliness of agar-set jelly, while also displaying a gentle bounce reminiscent of jellies set with konjac or gelatin. While we thoroughly enjoyed these jellies, we wished for a more straightforward way to fully appreciate their flavour without the need for frequent palate refreshment.

The meticulous attention to detail in both the decor and atmosphere, as well as in the flavor and presentation of their dishes, clearly demonstrated the dedication of the individuals behind Tealosophy Tea Bar to their craft. The experience was a serene oasis amid the hustle and bustle of Hong Kong’s Central district.
