Daimonji Ame Honpo is a small 100-year-old candymaker located in Kyōto, Japan. It is dedicated to using traditional handmade methods of candy making.
This is their Kobore Ume Amem, made using shiso and plum flesh from Minami Yamashiro, Kyōto, a famous plum-growing region. Its flavour was inspired by plum blossoms that are beautifully blooming.

The candy was about 2 cm in diameter and 1 cm in height without any aroma. Upon tasting, bright notes of shiso came through immediately before the sweeter and slightly tart notes of the plum emerged as the candy melted in the mouth. The flavour of the shiso persisted in the background and its flecks added a hint of rough texture to the otherwise hard candy without being so sharp as to inadvertently cut the inside of one’s mouth. The combination of the cooling shiso with the sweet tartness of the plum made this candy immensely refreshing.
This Daimonji Ame Honpo Kobore Ume Ame contained 80 g or 20 pieces. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2022.
