This review is long overdue, but this Glico Pretz Chou Kari Kari Butter Shōyu is another in the series featuring the ‘thinnest and crispiest’ Pretz and featured the crowd-pleasing soy butter flavour.

Each box contained two foil bags with brown print.

Each bag contained around 50 pretzels, which were about a quarter of the thickness of a typical Pretz and dusted in a fine soy butter flavoured seasoning.

These Pretz have a familiar aroma that recalled monosodium glutamate or MSG. This warm savoury aroma — the warmth coming from the butter and the savoury from the soy sauce — translates into a rich umami flavour on tasting that persists throughout the bite, and combined with the audible crispness that comes with the thinner pretzel makes for one very addictive snack. This thinner Pretz format is a definite favourite while the combination of the soy with the butter avoids the bold dairy notes that come from flavours like cultured butter.

This Glico Pretz Chou Kari Kari Butter Shōyu contained 55 g or 100 pieces. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Tōkyō, Japan in 2019.
