This is the Rikyu Kyōto Uji Koicha Langue de Chat.

Each box contained 15 individually sealed cookies.

Each cookie was square, measuring approximately 4 × 4 × 0.9 cm, constructed from two green-hued langue de chat biscuits sandwiching a matching green cream layer, with each component occupying roughly one third of the height. The aroma was gently sweet and grassy, clearly signalling matcha without sharpness.

On tasting, the surface delivered an immediate sweetness, suggestive of a light sugar glaze applied after baking, before giving way to a crisp, delicate bite. The interior cream introduced a rounded, lightly dairy character, smooth and cohesive, carrying a restrained but clear koicha-style matcha flavour. The biscuits themselves were light and largely unsweetened beyond the surface glaze. As they dissolved, a measured bitterness emerged, initially subtle, then becoming more pronounced and lingering into the finish, reinforcing the matcha-forward profile.

Overall, a well-balanced langue de chat with a confident matcha presence, where crisp biscuit and smooth cream interplay effectively, and sweetness is kept in check by a sustained, elegant bitterness.

This Rikyu Kyōto Uji Koicha Langue de Chat contained 105 g (7 g x 15 pieces). It was produced in Japan and received as a gift from acquaintances visiting Japan in 2025.
