This is the Nippon Yell Gummy Toyama Nyūzen Jumbo Watermelon, made with juice from Nyūzen jumbo watermelons grown in Toyama Prefecture. Known for their distinctive oval shape resembling a rugby ball, these watermelons can reach up to 30 kg in weight and are prized for their sweet aroma and refined flavour.

Each gummy measured approximately 2 cm in diameter and 1 cm in height, with an opaque pink-red hue and a fragrant aroma reminiscent of freshly pressed watermelon juice. On tasting, the smooth surface gave way to a bouncy, firm exterior that quickly yielded to a soft, jelly-like core. The watermelon flavour was immediately evident, led by the rich, syrupy sweetness of the centre. Continued chewing intensified the experience, as the gummy layer contributed a gentle acidity that balanced the overall profile and avoided any cloying artificiality.
The result was a flavour evocative of freshly juiced watermelon, clean and refreshing. A thoughtfully executed product, and one worth repurchasing.
This Nippon Yell Gummy Toyama Nyūzen Jumbo Watermelon contained 40 g. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2024.
