Matcha-ya celebrated its 6th anniversary by offering a complimentary sakura mochi with their original Iced Matcha Latte ($7.90) for a limited time starting on 16 July 2024. The drink featured whisked matcha at the base, topped with fresh milk, ice, and whipped cream.

We’ve enjoyed the matcha latte at Matcha-ya since it opened, and it has maintained a consistently high standard. The matcha latte is creamier than the version from Edition Coffee Roasters, with a similar intensity but with a subtle grit in the finish. It is unsweetened, but the natural sweetness from the milk masks any overt bitterness and delivers a fresh vegetal flavour.
The sakura mochi was a pleasant surprise, having expecting simply a pink coloured shiratama. It was soft and stretchy, featuring a sakura an (sakura and white bean paste) centre that was pink and smooth. It had a sweet floral quality that complemented the savoury notes of the pickled sakura on top. The shiratama, although a bit moist on the outside, had the same great texture as always. Overall, the sakura mochi was a standout and unique offering in Sydney, making it very enjoyable.
This Iced Matcha Latte (6th Anniversary) was purchased from Matcha-ya at NW.05 10 Steam Mill Lane, Haymarket NSW 2000 in July 2024.
