Opened in early 2024, Kuki Soft Serve & Cookies is a sister store to Duo Duo, known for its gelato and deep-fried ice cream. As its name suggests, this sister store focuses on soft serve and cookies.

Earl Grey Soft Serve ($6.50)
The soft serve had an exceptionally smooth and creamy consistency, featuring a robust Earl Grey flavour that infused soft floral bergamot notes with every mouthful. Notably, there was no trace of sharpness or bitterness from the tea, and the dairy flavour was subtle without being intrusive. The accompanying waffle cone added to the experience with its crisp texture and subtle vanilla undertones, and the soft serve filled it to the bottom. The overall execution was delicious, demonstrating a harmonious balance of texture and flavour.

Maple & Pecan Cookie ($6.50)
The cookie had a delightful texture, starting with a crisp bottom and edge that transitioned smoothly to a chewy centre with a fudgy consistency. Generous pecan pieces provided a satisfying light crunch throughout. The maple infusion imparted a fragrant caramel-like depth to the cookie’s sweetness, expertly balanced by a pronounced dose of salt.

Triple Chocolate Cookie ($6.50)
The cookie had the same delightful texture: crispy edges, chewy center, and fudgy pockets. The sprinkle of salt balanced its sweetness, enhancing the rich flavour of the milk and dark chocolate chips, which added unexpected pockets of creamy and smooth gooey fudge to the cookie.

Brown Sugar & Milk Chocolate Cookie ($6.50)
The cookie had the same crisp edges, chewy centre, and fudgy pockets from the milk chocolate. However, the cookie itself lacked the depth in the sweetness present in the maple & pecan. That said, it was a delightful cookie, with the sprinkling of salt on top providing impeccable balance to the sweetness; however, the flavour of the other cookies were more nuanced.

Apple Pie Cookie ($7.50). This was a seasonal special offered during the 2024 Mid-Autumn Festival events at Darling Square.
The cookie had a spiced aroma, though the flavour was surprisingly mild, with cinnamon and nutmeg only subtly present in the background. As with the other cookies, it featured a crispy edge, becoming chewy towards the centre, which was light and fluffy, with occasional bursts of fruity, cooked-down apple. The apple added a mellow sweetness without making the cookie too moist, though there weren’t many pieces, which was a bit disappointing. Despite this, the overall cookie did evoke the taste of apple pie.

Almond Honey Butter Cookie ($6.50).
This cookie was generously topped with roasted almond halves, providing a robust, roasted crunch. Additional almond slivers within the batter added a softer, more delicate texture. The honey butter flavour of the cookie offered a floral sweetness balanced by a rich, savoury undertone, which paired perfectly with a light sprinkling of sea salt. Like the other cookies, it had a satisfying exterior crunch that gradually gave way to a soft, chewy centre.

Roasted Macadamia and White Chocolate Cookie ($6.50)
The macadamia nuts were roasted to a golden, toasty flavour with a satisfying crunch, while the white chocolate formed a delicate, melted layer at the cookie’s centre. We appreciated the generous amount of macadamias on the surface, without adding white chocolate on top, which could have reduced the amount of nuts. This choice made for an indulgent, luxurious treat, with a crispy exterior that gave way to a soft, chewy centre.

Black Sesame and White Chocolate Cookie ($6.60)
This cookie featured a black sesame base with white chocolate chips, offering a significantly more balanced flavour than the Butter Boy version, which leaned heavily on sugar and butter. The edge had a pleasant crunch, though not as crisp as some of their other cookies. The black sesame powder was evident in the crumb, contributing both a finer texture and a warm nuttiness. The cookie dough itself was only lightly sweetened, allowing the white chocolate chips to provide bursts of creamy sweetness. This balance highlighted the mellow, slightly savoury toasted notes of the black sesame, preventing the cookie from becoming overly sweet. The centre had a slightly chewier texture compared to the crunchy exterior, creating an enjoyable contrast without the doughy consistency of Butter Boy’s cookies.
Kuki Soft Serve & Cookies creates some of the most delightful cookies, perfectly balancing crunchy, crispy, chewy, and gooey textures.
Kuki Soft Serve & Cookies is located at Darling Square, 9/18 Steam Mill La, Haymarket NSW 2000.
