Top Ryde Bakers House, Ryde

Top Ryde Bakers House is always busy when we walk past to the Woolworths next door and many a time, we’d made plans to eat at a restaurant and snack of a bánh mì afterwards. Suffice to say, we always overestimated the size of our stomachs and had to forego the snack until we finally ventured to eat it as a meal instead.

This is their Pork Roll ($6.00), with an interesting addition of fried onions that we’ve not seen elsewhere.

The bread is very crisp and light and packed generously with the regular assortment of cold cut meats, pickled carrots and daikon and cucumber. Most places skimp on the coriander but not here. The flavour was fresh and flavourful, although we’d have enjoyed the carrots to be more julienned than shredded and with a more pronounced vinegar flavour.

D has fond memories of the doughnuts from 7 Eleven, and was keen to compare this Chocolate Iced Doughnut ($2.20),

The doughnut is substantial with a tender dough but without quite the same lightness as the 7-Eleven doughnuts. That said, the chocolate icing was rich and despite tasting like cheap chocolate, made for a satisfying snack for which he’d be happy to return.

Top Ryde Bakery House is located at Level G2, Top Ryde Shopping Centre, Corner Devlin St and Blaxland Rd, Ryde NSW 2112.
