UH@W, Melbourne

I spent a whirlwind thirty-six hours in Melbourne last week to present a paper. In reality, presenting my paper took up only a few hours, and the rest was spent shopping. The one dinner I had in Melbourne was catered and complimentary at the University House at Woodward at the University of Melbourne.

The mains alternated between two dishes with string beans and petite roasted potatoes. The one I ended up with was beef with a beetroot sauce. The beef was cooked just enough that it wasn’t rare but not raw, which is just how I like it. It was  juicy and tender.

A salmon dish alternated with the beef. I originally received this plate, but D kindly swapped with me and he tells me it tasted all right, although we couldn’t figure out what was the rectangular slab underneath the salmon. We decided that alternating menus engenders food envy (or really, D and I both prefer beef over fish so…)

There was also dessert, which I neglected to take a photo. Dessert was a tart with chai-flavoured filling and alnuts, with a side of cream and raspberries. The tart itself was so terribly dry that the raspberries decorating the plate were the highlight!

UH@W was enjoyed at Melbourne Law School, 185 Pelham Street, Carlton VIC 3053.
