It’s rare that I’d get around sweetening my leaf teas as I usually turn to tea sachets for a quick way for a sweet tea fix. This is Damtuh Grapefruit Black Tea.

Each sachet contained 13 g of granules composed of grapefruit juice (4.2%), grapefruit squeezed juice (2.82%), extracted black tea powder (2.5%), acacia honey (0.4%), Ceylon black tea powder (0.1%), xylitol (5%) and xylose sugar (3%). The remaining 82% is made up of sugar (the first ingredient in the list) and stevia (the last ingredient in the list).

The tea is an cloudy brown colour with a zesty, slightly bitter grapefruit aroma. Served chilled, bright notes of grapefruit with a notable acidity at the head of each sip developed with a very prominent and almost overwhelming honey sweetness in the body before zesty grapefruit notes return in the finish with a hint of bitterness. The tea has a smooth and viscous mouthfeel characteristic of honey-based beverages, which likely contributes to the length of time (> 1 minute) it takes for the granules to dissolve. Overall, the black tea notes are difficult to place given the intensity of the sweetness in this tea.
This Damtuh Grapefruit Black Tea contained 15 x 13 g sachets. It was produced in South Korea and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2018.
