Maumiga Banana Tteok

This is the Maumiga Banana Tteok, made with a banana paste containing 40% banana.

Each piece was log-shaped, measuring approximately 2.5 cm in diameter and 6 cm in length, with a pale yellow hue and a gentle, nutty rice flour aroma.

On tasting, the surface offered a light roughness from the soybean powder before yielding to a soft, chewy mochi texture. The centre was noticeably softer, revealing the banana paste. The exterior carried a mellow savoury nuttiness that balanced the sweeter filling well. While the banana flavour was clearly present, it was underpinned by a distinct white bean paste base, resulting in a thicker and slightly grainy texture rather than the smoother, richer mouthfeel found in the Dalgwang Jeju Banana Rice Cake or a Tōkyō Banana. The flavour balance was pleasant, though the banana expression felt comparatively restrained.

Overall, a well-balanced and convenient snack with thoughtful textural contrast, though the banana character lacked the intensity found in comparable products.

This Maumiga Banana Tteok contained 40 g. It was produced in South Korea and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2025.
