SnackaChangi Chips Sweet Chilli

This is the SnackaChangi Chips Sweet Chilli, a heavily corrugated kettle-fried potato chip featuring “100% retired cage fighting chillies” with “a hint of scorpion venom”.

The chips presented in irregular oval cuts measuring approximately 4–6 cm in diameter and around 2 mm thick, with a yellow-golden hue and visible fragments of potato skin remaining along portions of the edges. Deep corrugation and uneven rippling gave the structure a dense, rigid appearance. A fine coating of red, orange, and green seasoning powder settled evenly across the ridges and recessed surfaces. Aroma opened with a savoury tangy profile led by onion and garlic powder, supported by mild vinegar-like acidity.

Initial contact delivered an immediate and highly satisfying crunch generated by the thick kettle-fried structure and pronounced ridging. The chips fractured cleanly with strong mechanical resistance before collapsing into a dense crispness. Flavour opened on a savoury-sweet profile driven primarily by tomato, onion, and garlic seasoning rather than chilli heat. Texture immediately established itself as the dominant strength of the product.

Through the mid-palate, restrained acidity introduced a tangy quality reminiscent, though without the sharpness or aggressive bite associated with stronger vinegar-forward profiles such as Tabasco. The seasoning remained savoury and garlicky throughout, while the corrugated structure maintained persistent crunch and effective seasoning distribution. A mellow chilli warmth gradually emerged towards the latter half of chewing, though it remained secondary to the onion and garlic profile. Despite broadly aligning with expected sweet chilli flavour markers, the seasoning lacked clear definition or depth, resulting in a profile that felt somewhat generic despite its balance.

Towards the finish, the mild heat lingered briefly before receding into long-lasting savoury garlic and onion notes. Residual oil remained controlled, allowing the aftertaste to stay relatively clean rather than greasy. Texture continued to outperform the flavour profile through to the finish.

Overall, a kettle-fried potato chip with a layered savoury progression and exceptionally cohesive textural development, resulting in a texture-driven product with restrained but underdefined sweet chilli seasoning.
