I’m not much of a drinker. And by that I mean I likely average one standard drink all year. Unless I’m in Japan, and then my consumption increases because chu hai is delicious – it’s like soft drink with the slightest hint of alcohol and comes in all the fruity flavours you could imagine. Truth is, I don’t actually like the taste of most alcohol I’ve tried. So, I only enjoy alcohol when it flavours something else. Like rum in tiramisu.
Rum raisin is a classic taste and I like rum well enough in tiramisu to try Nestlé KitKat Rum Raisin. These were wafer biscuits enrobed in a rum raisin flavoured white chocolate.
This Nestlé KitKat Rum Raisin is a very rich white chocolate. The alcoholic notes of rum come through more strongly as the smell that greets once you take it out from its wrapper than it does through the actual white chocolate. It’s only a very fleeting hint of rum as the chocolate begins to melt, before dissolving into the sweet fruity raisin notes of the sandwiching cream. It’s a very intense sweetness, though the small size of the bar keeps it enjoyable. According to the box, the addition of rum creates a refined taste that’s perfect for the image of Tōkyō.
The box of Nestlé KitKat Rum Raisin contained 12 mini bars. It is a limited edition for the regions of Tōkyō, and was manufactured in Japan and purchased in Tōkyō, Japan in 2014.
