This is the Tohato Harvest Butter Toast, made with fermented butter and blended breadcrumbs to recreate the flavour and aroma of warm buttered toast.

Each package contained eight individual sachets, each holding four circular biscuits. Each biscuit measured approximately 5.5 cm in diameter and 3 mm thick, formed by layering several thin layers of dough. They presented with light golden scalloped edges and paler centres. Aroma opened with the gentle sweetness of fermented butter.

Initial contact delivered a light savoury impression from the salt sprinkled across the surface. The thin structure produced a crisp, delicate crunch, with the relatively open crumb fracturing cleanly before beginning to melt on the palate. Sweetness in the base dough remained restrained, allowing the buttery profile to emerge gradually alongside a mellow sweetness.
Through the mid-palate, the fermented butter developed a more pronounced savoury character with a warm nuttiness. The crispness persisted through the finish, creating the impression of lightly caramelised, toasted bread topped with melted butter. As the biscuit layers softened, they transitioned from a persistent crunch into a richer melt-in-the-mouth texture, leaving a lingering savoury butter profile.
Overall, a layered biscuit with a savoury-to-buttery flavour progression and a crisp-to-melting textural development, resulting in a convincing warm buttered-toast profile with restrained sweetness and a rich savoury finish.
This Tohato Harvest Butter Toast contained 88 g (2.75 g x 32 biscuits). It was produced in Japan and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2026.
