This is the Nippon Yell Gummy Yamanashi Sunshine Red, featuring the juice of Sunshine Red grapes produced in Yamanashi Prefecture. Sunshine Red is a red grape variety original to Yamanashi Prefecture. It is seedless, can be eaten with the skin on, and is characterised by the elegant aroma and sweetness of Muscat grapes.

Each gummy was dome-shaped, about 2 cm in diameter and 1 cm in height, with a muted pink-purple hue and a sweet, musky red grape aroma. The smooth surface was lightly dusted with corn starch before giving way to a firm, bouncy texture.
On tasting, the flavour opened with clear, mellow sweetness, with juicy red grape notes emerging by the second chew. Through the mid-palate, the sweetness intensified into a tropical-like Muscat character as repeated chewing released more flavour and the gummy gradually softened. Unlike other varieties in this series, it maintained the same gummy consistency throughout without a softer, jelly-like core, although this was unnecessary here as the gummy itself carried the rising aromatic intensity of the grape effectively.
The flavour developed the tropical sweetness associated with Muscat alongside the darker fruit character of red grape, with a touch of Labrusca-like musk adding further aromatic depth. Towards the finish, juicy acidity emerged to balance the sweetness and prevent the grape profile from becoming heavy.
Overall, a grape gummy with a rising Muscat-led flavour progression and consistent bouncy texture, resulting in a juicy and well-balanced interpretation of Sunshine Red grape.
This Nippon Yell Gummy Yamanashi Sunshine Red contained 40 g. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2026.
