Fujiya Country Ma’am Rich Matcha

This is the Fujiya Country Ma’am Rich Matcha, a soft-baked cookie featuring matcha produced by Ikeda Seicha, a long-established tea merchant in Kagoshima Prefecture, under the supervision of Ikeda Kenta, a 10th dan tea master, the highest rank. It also contained 2% cocoa.

The package contained 12 individually sealed cookies, each presenting with a circular shape measuring 4 cm in diameter and 1.5 cm in height, with an even green hue. Aroma opened with sweet vegetal notes of rich matcha.

After reheating in the microwave at 500 W for 20 seconds for five cookies, initial contact delivered immediate matcha notes alongside a crisp exterior that yielded to a loose, medium crumb and moist, soft interior.

Through the mid-palate, the rich milk chocolate chips softened and melted into the crumb, adding richness and creaminess while hydrating the cookie. Their sweetness balanced the matcha without displacing its flavour.

Towards the finish, the matcha peaked in richness, with a soft bitterness emerging as the cookie developed a melt-in-the-mouth quality. The combination of concentrated matcha and melted chocolate created a progression from vegetal bitterness into a richer, sweeter finish.

Overall, a soft-baked matcha cookie with a rising matcha profile and integrated textural development, progressing from a crisp exterior and loose crumb into a moist, melt-in-the-mouth finish. The matcha remained prominent throughout, with its bitterness and depth balanced by the richness and sweetness of the chocolate.

This Fujiya Country Ma’am Rich Matcha contained 120 g (10 g x 12 pieces). It was produced in Japan and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2026.
