Fujiya x Nippon Yell Palettie Hokkaidō Melon

This is the Fujiya x Nippon Yell Palettie Hokkaidō Melon, a biscuit featuring Hokkaidō melon juice and milk (0.8%).

Each package contained eight individually sealed biscuits, each measuring approximately 4.5 × 3.5 × 1.0 cm. The biscuits featured a green outer border surrounding an orange centre studded with melon-flavoured white chocolate chips, creating a clear visual distinction between the two dough components. Aroma opened immediately with the musky, honeyed sweetness of orange-fleshed muskmelon.

Initial contact delivered an immediate muskmelon flavour alongside a crisp crunch from the firmer, coarser-crumbed green exterior. Eaten separately, the exterior offered a light buttery profile without discernible melon flavour, concentrating the fruit character in the orange centre. This had a denser, moister consistency, with a darker, opaque middle that appeared almost wet without actually being so. The muskmelon flavour was rich but not overwhelming, capturing the honeyed sweetness, juiciness and mild floral character of fresh fruit with considerable intensity. Texturally, the crisp green border evoked the crisp base of a tart, while the denser, fudgier orange centre mirrored its softer filling. The melon-flavoured white chocolate chips softened during eating, contributing additional moisture and a creamy melt-in-the-mouth quality. This progression continued through the finish, as the crisp exterior gave way to the softer, melting interior, reinforcing the impression of a fruit tart in biscuit form.

Overall, a melon biscuit with a concentrated, honey-sweet fruit flavour and contrasting crisp and fudgy textures, resulting in a layered interpretation of a fresh melon tart.
