After having tried over twenty different flavours of Nestlé KitKat in Japan, we finally come full circle to the original Nestlé KitKat.
The Nestlé KitKat has milk chocolate enrobing two wafers sandwiching a layer of compressed chocolate milk powder.
The KitKat has a higher cocoa content than milk chocolates in the West and combined with the chocolate powder compressed between the wafers, creates a richer and rounder chocolate flavour that avoids the overly sweet flavour of chocolates in the West.
The original KitKat is about the only flavour for which Nestlé Australia produces with a similar counterpart, so a comparison is in order. The Australian Nestlé KitKat consisted of milk chocolate enrobing wafers sandwiched by a cream created using smashed up KitKats that failed quality assurance process in production.
The resulting KitKat is a sweeter flavour with a lower cocoa content, most evident through the lighter colour of the enrobing chocolate. The sweeter chocolate is almost too sweet and likely accentuated by the smashed up KitKats. The KitKat by Nestlé Japan is preferred for its richer flavour and more balanced sweetness.
