It’s always great to see new tea places opening up in Sydney. For all my love for the aroma of coffee, tea is where my heart is and T Totaler – a play on ‘teetotaller’ – opened up in The Galeries early 2017.

They have a selection of their teas available – mostly tisanes featuring ginger, lemon, and various other herbs, rather than the fruit flavoured teas I’m fond of.

For those that can’t decide whether to commit to their 70-gram bottles of tea, there are samples in test tubes for $7.00 each with about 2-3 servings.

For those who want to enjoy a ready-made cup of tea, you can order takeaway from the counter just as you would coffee. This here is the T Totaler French Earl Grey Hot Chocolate decorated on top with candy floss and rose petals. Isn’t it pretty?

The drink had prominent notes of citrusy earl grey black tea that are well balanced by the mellow sweetness of the chocolate. That said, the drink is foremost a tea, with the hot chocolate component coming through in the background and made from the lighter flavours of powdered hot chocolate rather than real chocolate. With full cream milk, the drink had a creamy and full-bodied flavour in stark contrast to the thin and watery mouthfeel when made with almond milk, which dominates the drink with its distinct flavour.

T Totaler is located at Shop 26A, Ground Floor, The Galeries, 500 George Street, Sydney NSW 2000.
