The Barossa Cider Co Squashed Apple Cider

This The Barossa Cider Co Squashed Apple Cider escaped our notice on the numerous occasions we scanned the shelves of cider at the shops, and probably have tried it earlier if we’d noticed it as it was awarded the Sydney Royal Medal at the 2014 Beer & Cider Show. Awards must mean something!

The cider has a transparent pale straw colour with a sweet apple nose and moderate carbonation. Served chilled, the sweetness of apples in the head of each sip developed brightly – like apple juice – with floral notes in the body and a full creamy mouthfeel before a drier acidic finish with no lingering aftertaste. Despite its tart finish, this is a richly sweet cider that leaves little room for the refreshing crispness in other apple ciders like that by Orchard Thieves or Somersby or Cider Lab. This cider may win awards, but it’s not entirely to our taste.

This The Barossa Cider Co Squashed Apple Cider contained 330 ml. It was bottled in Australia and gifted by family visiting South Australia, Australia in 2017.
