With the weather getting warmer, D and I like to stop by 7-Eleven to pick up a Slurpee. We were pleasantly surprised to find limited flavours in addition to their staple cola and raspberry.
This is the Guava. We enjoy its refreshing tropical notes of red guava with moderate sweetness.
This is the Honey Pear. This one tastes somewhere between sweet cooked pears and artificial pear flavour.
This is the Zilched Lychee. The Zilched range is artificially sweetened and contained less than 1% sugar. We enjoy the floral sweetness of lychee coming through bright with a balanced sweetness immensely.
This is the Zilched Passionfruit Lime. The passionfruit is rather absent from this one, with an artificial lime dominating the flavour. It tastes all right, but we’ve had more enjoyable flavours.
It’s time for another round up of 7-Eleven Slurpee flavours. This here is Raspberry, a very pedestrian flavour that we’d ended up with because we trusted the sign that said Lemon Lime Bitters above the dispenser. Unfortunately, they’d removed that flavour when we returned so we never got to try that flavour. In any case, the raspberry has the bright sweetness and slight acidity of the fruit even if the flavour was more artificial than fresh.
This here is Zilched Wildberry Cream, which is ‘zilched’ with less than 1% sugar. Again, we were after the Kumquat Orange flavour but it wasn’t ready in the machine so we settled for this flavour given the unseasonably warm weather. The flavour was surprisingly creamy without a hint of dairy and with a generic sweet berry flavour – we weren’t able to narrow down the berry.
Finally, this is the Lychee Lemon, a flavour we’d actually entered the store intending to try. Lemon isn’t something we’d expect to be paired with lychee, but it works well: the lychee is sweet and tropical while the zestiness of the lemon brought a refreshing hit. This is easily the best of the three flavours we’d tried lately.
A few weeks later, we try the Tropical, a fresh flavour with prominent notes of sweet pineapple and the tanginess of passionfruit. It reminds of tropical punch fruit juice.
Heading back into summer, this is a round of up the various flavours of Slurpees from 7-Eleven Tastes like a creamy lemon during the second half of 2018. To start off, this is the Lemon Meringue, which has a creamy sweetness with a zesty lemon flavour.
This one here is Pink Creamy Soda. It’s part of their ‘low sugar’ (formerly ‘zilched’) series and tastes much like how you’d expect creaming soda to taste: a creamy vanilla flavour with a fruity hint of raspberry.
This Honey Drew is also part of their ‘low sugar’ series with an easily identifiable honeydew flavour, but without the gentle acidity of the fresh fruit itself much like most artificially flavoured honeydew foods.
This one is Kumquat Orange which has a prominent orange base with a prominent zesty tanginess that recalled the zest and flesh of a kumquat.
Finally, this is the Passionfruit with a sweet tropical flavour recalling a Passiona soft drink and easily our favourite Slurpee flavour to date.
