Juchheim Baumkuchen Scheiben Chocolate

This Juchheim Baumkuchen Scheiben Chocolate follows on from the Original. Juchheim is the brand founded by Karl Juchheim, the German who first introduced the baumkuchen to Japan.

The Scheiben series are ‘slices’ (scheiben in German) of a baumkuchen. Here, the baumkuchen is made from multiple layers of cake made from fermented butter and marzipan flavoured with chocolate and enrobed in a layer of dark chocolate along the outer rim.

Each slice is 8 cm in diameter with a thickness of 1 cm.

There’s a rich aroma of dark chocolate from these slices. Upon tasting, the cake has a gentle sweetness, with a very fine crumb that belies its rich dark chocolate flavour and moist and buttery texture. While dark, the bitterness of the chocolate is pleasantly balanced with the sweetness of the cake, lingering only briefly in the finish.

This Juchheim Baumkuchen Scheiben Chocolate contained 1 slice or 50 g. It was produced in Japan and gifted by family visiting Tōkyō, Japan in 2018.
