Hong Kong Dessert takes the place of what was previously a shoe store. It’s brightly lit and a somewhat out-of-place-for-a-dessert-bar selection of artworks adorns its walls. Though, on that note, Hong Kong Dessert is a misleading name as they do a number of savoury rice-based non-dessert dishes.

I skim past the dessert dishes and the Yakult Green Tea ($4.80) catches my eye. I like Yakult, I like flavoured Calpis, I like green tea, and I like green tea lattes, so it seemed like a safe enough choice even if it sounded a bit left-field. And it was a decent choice. It tastes dominantly of Yakult that’s been watered down with undertones of the leafy astringency you get from green tea.

N and T have always been more partial to Asian desserts, so they try the Mango Sago Pudding with Glutinous Rice Balls ($6.50). This was rather disappointing. The pudding tasted much like melted cheap mango ice cream with a much thinner consistency. The glutinous rice balls tasted rather soft and floury (with no bite). Surprisingly though, the mango pieces were fresh rather than canned. Mangoes aren’t in season though, so it was a tad sour.
Very few items on the menu appeal to me, so it’s unlikely that I’d be back.
