The Gong Cha Genmaicha Latte inducted me into the world of milk teas from Taiwanese beverage shops, although I’d been exposed to many milk teas from Chanoma and Oh! Matcha long before. With this new world of milk teas opening up, this is the Chatime Oolong Milk Tea ($5.20, +$0.00.75 for pearls).
The tea is a translucent light brown colour with a fragrant aroma that recalled roasting houjicha. Served hot, the same roasted notes came through with a sweet nuttiness before building to a lightly floral flavour that recalled an oolong, with a markedly astringent finish lingering on the palate. The tea is rather thin as seems to be the case with many milk teas, but the oolong flavour was prominent and pleasant.
Oolong Milk Tea was purchased at Chatime in Sydney, Australia during June 2018.
