Tea Shop Express Apple Bamboo Oolong

This is the Apple Bamboo Oolong ($7.30; less ice, fixed sugar) from Tea Shop Express, featuring bamboo oolong and apple.

The beverage presented with a translucent brown hue with no visible inclusions. Aroma opened with soft woody notes characteristic of bamboo, supported by a gentle sweetness reminiscent of fresh apple.

Initial contact delivered an immediate profile of apple juice made from concentrate, with a rounded sweetness and light body. The apple flavour was clean and approachable, although it lacked the freshness and complexity of whole apple. Through the mid-palate, the bamboo oolong gradually emerged, introducing soft woody notes and a gentle astringency that anchored the tea character beneath the fruit. The tea remained smooth throughout, with the bamboo lending a clean, lingering finish rather than overt roasted notes. Despite this balanced progression, the beverage lacked any apple purée or fresh apple pieces to provide additional texture or reinforce the fruit profile, leaving the drinking experience comparatively one-dimensional. Towards the finish, the apple sweetness gradually receded while the woody character of the bamboo oolong remained, accompanied by a gentle drying sensation typical of lightly brewed oolong. Aftertaste carried subtle woody notes with restrained astringency, allowing the tea base to linger after the fruit had faded.

Overall, a fruit tea with a layered flavour trajectory and a well-integrated mouthfeel, resulting in a clean but relatively simple combination in which the bamboo oolong ultimately proved more memorable than the apple component.

This Apple Bamboo Oolong was purchased from Tea Shop Express in Sydney, Australia in July 2026.
