Western supermarkets have slowly picked up on ice cream flavours inspired from Asia, starting with the Connoisseur Matcha Green Tea Ice Cream, but black sesame is still a flavour to be found only in Asian grocery stores, which is where we picked up this La Creme Black Sesame Ice Cream.
The ice cream is a soft grey colour with a slight black sesame aroma that came through just as subtly on tasting to our disappointment. The dominant flavour was dairy and not an enjoyable one at that. While the dairy provides the creaminess, the dairy flavour interferes with the nuttiness of black sesame, pushing it into the background in favour of the milkiness. It lacked the rich and creamy flavour that makes the black sesame ice cream at Max Joy Co.
