Starbucks Chestnut Swirl Latte

This Starbucks Chestnut Swirl Latte ($5.50, tall) featured on their autumn menu and coincidentally, I was lucky enough to catch it the day before it was taken off the menu. It’s described as a coffee where ‘an indulgent Irish cream-infused chestnut sauce meets rich, freshly drawn espresso’. Each cup is usually ‘topped with a crown of espresso whipped cream’, but I opted out of it as I’m not a fan of whipped cream.

The coffee is topped with a thick and creamy milk foam and has a fragrant nutty aroma, which came through pleasantly against a rich espresso background whose roasted cereal notes are well balanced by the return of a sweet chestnut nuttiness in the finish. The espresso was smooth, creamy and not the slightest bit acidic, and the overall flavour of the coffee reminds of a creamy and nutty Irish cream without the booze.

Chestnut Swirl Latte appeared on Starbucks in Sydney, Australia during August 2018.
