This Muji Adzuki Beans Tea is my first encounter for a tea (or tisane, really) based on this bean that’s more commonly used in Asian desserts, although consuming the bean in liquid form isn’t particularly odd considering the pervasiveness of red bean soup. The tea is said to be beneficial for regulating kidney function.

The tea is a pyramid tea bagged tisane of crushed azuki beans.

Infusing one 3 g tea bag in 100 mL of just boiled water for 5 minutes, the infusion was a translucent light straw colour with a sweet and nutty aroma that recalled black soybean tea. Served hot, a natural sweetness came through initially with a pleasant nuttiness emerging in the body. The sweetness peaks with the nuttiness towards the end of the sip and leaves a clean aftertaste.
Overall, the tea recalled the smooth mouthfeel and sweet nutty flavour of black soybean tea, although its sweet is more prominent to capture the flavour of azuki beans from Asian desserts.

This Muji Adzuki Beans Tea contained 9x 3 g tea bags. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Ōsaka, Japan in 2018.
