We stopped by Atlantic Fish & Chips when they were running a Thursday evening special and clearing out their food with $10.00 boxes and free salad.
The two boxes we picked up were packed with a piece of grilled fish on a bed of chips and topped with an assorted of battered fish fillets, crumbed calamari rings and octopus on a bed of chips.
Our favourite was the calamari rings, which retained their crunchy crumbed coating while remaining tender on the inside, followed by the grilled fish that was flakey and flavourful. The battered fish pieces had lost some of their crispness but were juicy and tender inside. We had high hopes for the grilled octopus, but that was disappointingly rubbery despite its good charred flavour. The chips were undercooked, but we weren’t fussed as there was enough fish keeping us full for us to get around to eating too many.
As for the free salad, there’s a variety to choose from, including (above) fried chicken with lettuce, egg and croutons, as well as (below) prawns with greens and red onion. The prawns lacked any flavour, although the greens were reasonably fresh. It could’ve used some dressing for moisture.
Overall, the amount of food we received was generous for the price, considering grilled fish and chips usually cost around $9.00.
