McCain Roast Potatoes Rosemary & Garlic

We picked up these McCain Roast Potatoes Rosemary & Garlic for a quick carb-y fix.

They’re prepared by cooking in a preheated oven at 210°C (200°C fan forced) for 30-35 minutes. Straight from the bag, the smell of the potatoes surprised us for something flavoured with rosemary and garlic. Aptly, D described the smell akin to ‘an old Japanese business hotel’, that is to say, something like a mix of musty, old cigarette smoke and deodorizer. We held out hope that the smell would improve with cooking.

The roasted potatoes tasted just like how they smelled: an old Japanese business hotel. The texture of the potatoes themselves did not improve the flavour, alas. While the skin was crisp and light golden, the inside of the potatoes were very starchy and powdery. Unfortunately, there’s also no uniformity in the size of the chunks of potatoes with some being halved baby potatoes, others being whole baby potatoes, and still others being whole normal sized potatoes. That makes cooking them evenly difficult.

Unfortunately, there’s very little to recommend about these roast potatoes and we’re unlikely to repurchase.
