Taking a break from our usual run of the inventive flavours of KitKat coming out of Japan is this Nestlé KitKat Ice Cream Sticks.
They’re described as having ‘a creamy wafer-flavoured centre enrobed in a chocolate coating with crushed wafer pieces in the coating (35%)’. They’re about 9 x 4 x 2.5 cm in size.
These ice cream sticks have a fragrant wafer aroma recalling a dark caramelised mix of butter, sugar and vanilla. Upon tasting, we’re surprised by the texture of the enrobing milk chocolate, which is grainy from the crushed wafer pieces. But the rich wafer flavour with the milk chocolate redeems the initial off putting texture and gave it a crisp wafer crunch leaving us in no doubt that it’s a KitKat ice cream. The wafer flavoured ice cream has a more subdued flavour with a creamy smoothness in contrast to the enrobing chocolate. Overall, we’re impressed by the KitKat flavour in these ice cream sticks.
