At the end of the 2018, A’s sister alerted us to the hype surrounding the milk tea soft serve at HeetTea. Walking around for dessert after dinner at TeaPlus only a few weeks after HeetTea opened, we were greeted not only by crazy queues but also their soft serve being sold out — a common occurrence even now on Friday and Saturday evenings apparently.
Fast forward to autumn 2019, we stopped by around midday to avoid the queue for this much hyped Milk Tea Soft Serve ($6.50).
True to its name, it tastes exactly like a pearl milk tea in frozen form — the soft serve is creamy and smooth with a notable milk tea flavour, while the pearls add the usual chewiness and the waffle cone introduces a moreish crunch. While I’d have enjoyed firmer pearls, D and I both enjoy this soft serve immensely.
There’s a short wait between ordering the soft serve and receiving it as the compressor needs to chill the mixture to create the desired texture. There’s much hype surrounding it — HeetTea is the only place offering it — but it definitely deserves the hype it receives.
Returning a while later, I took the chance to try their Pearl Milk Tea ($5.80, no ice, no sugar). The strength of the tea flavour was comparable to that in the soft serve — fragrant with a round mouthfeel without being thin. With sugar, it’s easy to see the flavours of both the tea and the soft serve are almost identical.
