Morinaga Hi-Chew Shiroi Shifuku

This Morinaga Hi-Chew Shiroi Shifuku are a limited edition celebrating ‘white bliss fruits’: white grape, white peach, La France pear and white strawberry. Each piece of candy in the bag is sealed individually in foil with the same firm texture that gave way to the perfect juicy

White Grape

The white grape is in the blue coloured foil and gains its flavour from concentrated muscat juice. Its an opaque white colour with a pastel green centre. Upon tasting, the candy has sweet muscat aroma with a a rich grape flavour that recalled an enjoyable, non-boozy white wine (also made from muscat).

White Peach

The white peach is in a yellow coloured foil and contained concentrated peach juice. Its an opaque white surrounding a pastel orange centre. Upon tasting, the candy has a fragrant white peach aroma with the flavour of juicy white peaches — sweeter with a lighter, floral acidity.

La France Pear

The La France pear is in a green coloured foil and contained juice from La France pears. It’s an opaque white surrounding a pastel yellow centre. The taste is identical to the one we had earlier,

White Strawberry

Finally, the strawberry is in a pink coloured foil and contained strawberry purée and oddly, watermelon. It’s an opaque white surrounding a pastel pink centre. Upon tasting, the  candy has a gentle strawberry aroma that came through on the palate that’s less acidic and less punchy than the red strawberries but with a fragrant, depth of flavour with a sweetness that recalled the gentle roasted sweetness of a first flush hōjicha.

As always, we’re a fan of the texture and flavour of Hi-Chew with these limited edition white fruit flavours bringing through the natural flavours of the fruits with a balanced sweetness.

This Morinaga Hi-Chew Shiroi Shifuku contained 77 g or 18 pieces. It was produced in Japan and received as a gift from friends in Sydney, Australia in 2019.
