We’re slowly exploring the news flavours of instant noodles offered by Mama, and this here is the Mama Non-fried Ramen Original. This non-fried series was released to appeal to the more health conscious market with an an aversion for deep fried food, preservatives and artificial colours and flavours.
The noodles consist of a dehydrated noodle cake, as well as three sachets of 1) seasoning powder, 2) seasoning oil and 3) chilli flakes. They’re prepared by cooking the noodles for 3 minutes on the stove.
I’m not sure what Mama meant by ‘original’ flavour. The noodles have a sesame oil aroma, with the soy sauce and sesame oil dominating on tasting, so ‘original’ means probably a soy-based broth. The noodles have a decent texture — less bite than the original deep fried Mama noodles but not so soft as Maggi instant noodles — but did not soak up any flavour from the broth. Overall, these instant noodles are unremarkable and inoffensive; there’s not much more to say about it.
This Mama Non-Fried Ramen Original contained 60 g. It was produced in Thailand and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2019.
